Sifu Brian Lewadny

Master Brian Lewadny's martial art training began in 1964 and throughout the following years he studied many diverse styles of Chinese Kung-Fu and Karate. Among those were Shotokan Karate, Cho Lay Fut, Tein Tao Chi Kung, Chin Na and Modified Wing Chun. He achieved his instructors level in Woo Dip Poon Hop Moon (Butterfly style) and in Hung Gar (Tiger Crane style) and Wing Chun.

In 1981 he opened the Sil Lum Pai Kung Fu school teaching primarily the Woo Dip, Hung Gar and Modified Wing Chun styles.
Master Brian Lewadny traveled to Melbourne Australia to study the Traditional Art of Wing Chun directly under Grand Master William Cheung. He mastered all ten levels of the system within eight months.

"PROFILE OF A MASTER"

1962 Began training in Boxing and Wrestling through Fort William YMCA.
1964 Started training in Shito-Ryu and Shotokan Karate with Fort William School of Karate.
1966 Received "Beyond The Call Of Duty Award" from the Government of Ontario, and "On Her Majesty's Service Award" in conjunction with the "Governor General of Canada" and the "Royal Canadian Humane Society" for the saving of a life.
1969 Reached Instructor Level Karate.
1972 Began studying Woo Dip Kung Fu under Sifu Suen Sheuk Ming at the Ying Ming Kung Fu School.
1974 Began Hung Gar Kung Fu (tiger/crane) at the Ying Ming Kung Fu School.
1975 Began training in Modified (hard style) Wing Chun Kung Fu with Simon Fung.
1976 Assisted Teaching in the Ying Ming Kung Fu School
1977 Promoted to Instructor in the Woo Dip Kung Fu (butterfly style)-Ying Ming School.
1979 Promoted to Instructor in Hung Gar Kung Fu.
1980 Graduated to Senior Instructor of the Ying Ming Kung Fu School.
1981 Sifu Suen Sheuk Ming passed on his Ying Ming Kung Fu School to Sifu Brian Lewadny.
1982 Opened the Sil Lum Pai Kung Fu School with training in the Woo Dip, Hung Gar, and Wing Chun styles of Kung Fu.
1985 Became member of the Chinese National Chi Kung Institute (Tien Tao Chi Kung).
1985 Completed all three levels of the Touch for Health Natural Healing Therapies.
1986 Trained full time with Grandmaster William Cheung in Australia in the Traditional Wing Chun (soft style).
1987 Graduated with the highest Instructor mark awarded to that time.
1987 Pioneered Traditional Wing Chun in Canada, opening the first Canadian School located in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
1988 Developed the first Martial Arts Program accessible for Disabled Individuals.
1988 Conducted the first ever in Canada series of seminars for the Disabled sponsored by the Solicitor General of Canada and the March of Dimes.
1989 Relocated and opened the Calgary Wing Chun Academy, the Headquarters of the Canadian Wing Chun Kung Fu Association.
1990 Established the Canadian Wing Chun Association Apprentice Instructor Program.
1991 Opened the Toronto Wing Chun Academy.
1993 Opened the Kelowna/Penticton Wing Chun Academies in British Columbia.
1994 Hosted the first Canadian Wing Chun tour with Master William Cheung.
1994 Appointed Head Master of the North American Wing Chun Association by Master William Cheung, head of the World Wing Chun Kung Fu Assoc.
1995 Developed the En Garde Self Protection/ Self Empowerment Program.
1996 Celebrating the 10th year anniversary of Traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu in Canada.
1996 Hosted the first Wing Chun Summer Camp in Whistler, British Columbia.
1998 Held the first Canadian Association Apprentice and Instructors Conference.
2000 Marked 25 years of teaching in the Martial Arts.
2002 Began teaching the EnGarde Self Protection Self EmPowerment Program FREE to the women of Calgary.
2003 Celebrating 40 years in the Martial Arts and 15 years of the Wing Chun Kung Fu Academy in Calgary.
